YouTube Safety Mode

What is YouTube Safety Mode?


It is an “opt-in”setting; so it won’t take effect until you switch it on. While no filtering system is 100% accurate, webwise recommends that all parents should enable this feature. Also, as schools have recently been allowed to choose a filtering level that permits YouTube, the Safety Mode may be of interest to schools to assist in managing video content.

How do I turn on YouTube Safety Mode?


1.    On any video page in YouTube, scroll down to the page footer where you will see your current language, location, and safety mode settings.
2.    You can change your Safety Mode settings by Clicking on Off.
3.    Then choose the On radio buttion and click Save to enable this safety feature..

You have now switched on the YouTube Safety Mode. If you have a Gmail or YouTube account you can can lock this setting to Prevent somone coming along and changing it back.

How do I Lock it?

1.    Open the Safety Mode configuration panel in the footer by scrolling to the footer and clicking Safety Mode: On.
2.    Then click Sign in beside the Save button.
3.    Login to your Google account.
4.    Scroll down ot the footer again and click Save and lock Safety Mode on this browser.

You have now locked the YouTube Safety Mode on this browser. You will need to follow the same procedure on all other browsers installed on your machine. Don’t forget to sign out of your account when you are finished.
