Sample Acceptable Use Policies
Unsure of how to develop your school’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)? Don’t fear. Here, we list some prime examples of AUP documents, related permissions slips, and AUP checklists.
You can use our AUP Generator Tool or our AUP Guidelines Booklet to create or update your own school’s Acceptable Use Policy.
The booklet includes a sample AUP for teachers. In general, it addresses the safe, acceptable and responsible use of the internet and digital technologies. It may be used as a framework or customised to reflect individual school circumstances and needs.
There are many schools, both primary and post-primary, which have already implemented successful AUPs.
CBS Kilkenny is a post-primary school which has publicly posted their updated AUP. Another post-primary school.
At primary level, Powerstown Educate Together NS has an AUP for the safe and practical use of technology in education. Scoil Naomh Sheosaimh, in Galway, has their AUP available in English and trí mheán na Gaeilge.
Another interesting example of an AUP comes from Swords Educate Together NS. Here, both pupils and teachers sign up the AUP before using the internet.
