AI Aware – Checklist!

As part of Safer Internet Day 2026,  the students on the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel created a new AI Aware Checklist, designed to help teens to better understand and safely use generative AI tools.

From search engines to social media, generative AI is now common part of every day life. While these tools can be helpful for learning, creativity and exploring ideas, they also come with risks.

Reflecting the Safer Internet Day 2026 theme AI Aware: Safe, Smart and in Control, the AI Aware checklist was developed by young people to encourage others to think critically about how they use AI and to recognise when to question the information it provides.

The checklist highlights five simple ideas to keep in mind when using AI: Ask Questions, When in Doubt, Act Responsibly, Reality Check, and Ethical Use.

Together, these tips encourage young people to question AI-generated information, protect their personal data, use AI to support not replace their own learning, and remember that AI cannot replace real human advice or support.

Created by young people, the checklist reflects their real experiences online and offers guidance that is practical and relevant for teenagers.

Their message is simple: AI can be powerful and useful, but it’s important to stay curious, think critically, and use it responsibly.
