Sample Acceptable Use Policies

Sample Acceptable Use PoliciesUnsure of how to develop your school’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)? Don’t fear. Here, we list some prime examples of AUP documents, related permissions slips and AUP checklists.

You can download these versions, but remember, you will need to tweak and change the AUPs to suit your school’s needs.

There are many schools, both primary and post primary, which have already implemented successful AUPs.

CBS Kilkenny is a secondary school which has publicly posted their updated AUP. Another post-primary school, Celbridge Community School, uses empowering, student-friendly language in their AUP.

Temple Carrig is a second-level school where students use tablets and their AUP reflects this.

At primary level, Powerstown Educate Together NS has an AUP that includes advice on managing social media and the occasional use of personal devices in school.  Scoil Naomh Sheosaimh, in Galway, have their AUP available in English and trí mheán na Gaeilge.

St Peter’s Primary School, Bray is a primary school that makes regular use of social media. Their AUP includes guidelines for the use of social media.

Another interesting example of an AUP comes from Swords Educate Together NS. Here, both pupils and teachers sign up to the AUP before using the internet.
