Sample Acceptable Use Policies
You can download these versions, but remember, you will need to tweak and change the AUPs to suit your school’s needs.
There are many schools, both primary and post-primary, which have already implemented successful AUPs.
If your school uses tablets, Bremore Educate Together Secondary School provides a good example of how to cover iPad use within their AUP.
At primary level, Powerstown Educate Together NS has an AUP that includes advice on managing social media and the occasional use of personal devices in school. St. Mochulla’s National School includes netiquette (appropriate social behaviour online) and use of personal devices in their AUP. Scoil Naomh Sheosaimh, in Galway, has their AUP available in English and trí mheán na Gaeilge.
St Peter’s Primary School, Bray is a primary school that makes regular use of social media. Their AUP includes guidelines for the use of social media.

Another interesting example of an AUP comes from Swords Educate Together NS. Here, both pupils and teachers sign up the AUP before using the internet.
