About
Understanding the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020 and the legal consequences of it for young people.
Students will be able to recognise the key offences under the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020. Students will understand that their online actions have consequences for both themselves and others and that they are accountable for their actions. Students will feel empowered to speak up about online sexual harassment and know where to go for help if it occurs.


What is Coco’s Law – 1st and 2nd Year Lesson
Understanding the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020 and the legal consequences of it for young people.
Note: This lesson is best delivered after completing the Lockers resource, to ensure a clear progression in learning. If you’d like to explore the legal side of Coco’s Law further, you can invite a member of An Garda Síochána to speak with students. They can provide deeper insight into the legal aspects of this legislation.

What is Coco’s Law – 1st and 2nd Year Garda Lesson
The primary objective of the Garda lesson for 1st and 2nd year students about Coco’s Law, which criminalises certain online behaviours like the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and cyberbullying.
By explaining the key elements of the law, students gain awareness of the legal consequences associated with harmful digital behaviour, ensuring they understand the seriousness of such actions.
Important: It is advised that students have completed the What is Coco’s Law Lesson for 1st and 2nd Year in school beforehand.

Lockers Resource
Lockers is an information and education resource, it assists schools in coping with and preventing the sharing of explicit self-generated images of minors.
Intended for use with Junior Cycle SPHE classes, Lockers is supported by two animations and six lesson plans.
Also included in Lockers is an information section for school leaders.
