Safer Internet Day

What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is promoted in Ireland by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise.

The Theme for Safer Internet Day is “Together for a Better Internet“. Safer Internet Day 2020 will take place on Tuesday 11th February 2020. This year almost 145,000 people in Ireland celebrated Safer Internet Day 2019.

Safer Internet Day can be celebrated year-round so check out our list of resources below! We have lots of fun activities like word-searches, raps, roleplays and more! We also have premade SID presentations in English and in Irish. There are also a host of great videos that you can use to teach young people valuable online safety skills at home, or in the classroom.

Safer Internet Day Ambassador Programme

Working with young people is a big part of what we do. Our Safer Internet Day Ambassador Programme is a peer-to-peer youth training programme that gives students an opportunity to lead an online safety campaign in their own school or community. Students can be nominated by teachers or sign up themselves. The programme is open to all second-level students in Ireland. As a Safer Internet Day Ambassador you receive free training online and face-to-face training from Webwise and from our dedicated Youth Panel. Students learn how to lead internet safety activities and campaigns which can then be run in school for Safer Internet Day.

SID Training 2020

Preparations for Safer Internet Day are in full swing here at Webwise Ireland. On the 15th of January, Webwise hosted the Safer Internet Day Ambassador Training Day in Google HQ. Over 100 students from across Ireland gathered together to learn new skills and activities to help them plan and prepare for running their own internet safety awareness raising campaign in their school, clubs or organisations. The aim is to make Safer Internet Day a success in communities and schools across Ireland.

SID Training 2019

The Safer Internet Day Ambassador Training Day took place on the 10th of January in Google Headquarters in Dublin. It saw 130 students come together to learn new skills and ideas for running their own internet safety campaign in their school, clubs or organisations.
